Yes, I’m going to join in with Sean McCoy’s Dungeon23 concept. For those that missed it, a reminder:

“Megadungeon for 2023. 12 levels. 365 rooms. One room a day. Keep it all in a journal.” Sean McCoy

Unlike the people who have started in earnest a week ago, I’m going to spend the rest of December 2022 deciding how I’m going to do this. And I’ve still not worked it out yet. I’m very keen to pick something as easy as possible in the hope that I’ll actually finish it.

I don’t want to take time away from my current UVG game or my attempts to learn to speak (and write) French though.

Plan

Stick pretty closely to Sean’s original idea. There’s a few spinoffs now:

  • Hex23
  • World23
  • City23

And I won’t lie, they’re pretty tempting. I really like hexcrawls, I like drawing maps. Cities are fun, I’ve lived in a few! But actually I think I could do with practising my dungeons. Rather than make a megadungeon though, I’m at least going to start out with weekly 5-7 room dungeons. Keep this a small project, small as possible. If I had 52 of those I’d be pretty chuffed.

If I get bored I might go up to monthly dungeons, but not a megadungeon, just a bunch of 25-30 room ones. I will accept a day’s effort might just be other work on the dungeon, for instance:

  • Plot hooks
  • Factions
  • Competition (other adventurers)

I won’t “start” til 2023, but I think I’ll try to be a week ahead of the “schedule” as I absolutely know I won’t do this once a day. Fingers crossed though.

Inspirations

I’m using this excellent list of resources to mine from, though. And keeping a strong eye on the Mastodon hashtag. Or the subreddit.
